The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division increases equitable access to the outdoors for all New Mexicans, ensuring healthy outcomes, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity.

Our Core Values - We measure success by our impacts in these five key areas: sustainable economic development, conservation and stewardship, equity and access, education and workforce, and health and wellness.

Access to the outdoors is a basic human right – yet it’s one that has often been denied to many of our youth. As a result, our underrepresented kids haven’t had the chance to experience some of the best of New Mexico: Its outside world.

This year, the Outdoor Equity Fund opens to applications starting on July 1, 2024 and will be accepted on a rolling basis through August 31, 2024. The grant will support transformative outdoor experiences that foster stewardship and respect for our lands, waters, and cultural heritage.

*Please note there less funding available for the 2024 Outdoor Equity Fund, so this will be a more competitive grant year. We highly encourage you click on the above link and review the updated grant guide, and be thoughtful and thorough in your application.

Access to the outdoors should be low-cost and ubiquitous for all New Mexicans. That’s why lawmakers created the Outdoor Recreation Trails+. This grant program supports projects that enhance communities’ outdoor recreation opportunities. Trails, river parks, wildlife viewing areas, and more contribute to economic development, prosperity, and wellness. This grant funds shovel-ready projects that directly add to that access.
